  • Photo of Earl Wilfred Bradford– My Canadian Soldier

My Great Uncle Earl was a young man/
When he went off to war/
To fight for all our freedom/
Knowing all too well, what was in store./
My mother tells the story/
Of when they took him to meet his train/
He said "see you later blondie"/
She would never lay eyes on him again./
On Puys beach in Dieppe they landed/
That frightfull August day/
The German's were waiting/
No way out they had to stay./
At first they couldn't identify his body/
until they found dog tags etched with his name,/
Operation Jubilee/
Was most definitely not a game./
My soldiers lifeless body/
is so far from home/
He lay there amongst his comrade's/
cold, lifeless, and alone./
A stone now stands watch over my Soldier/
In a land so far away,/
Where poppy's grow wild
Over the field where he lay,/
His memory lives on with-in me/
His death was not in vain,/
I remember him through pictures, and stories/
And a stone, which bear's his name./
Selflessly giving of himself/
So others may live free,/
I am proud of my Canadian Soldier/
Who lost his life, giving freedom to me./ -
