Son of William James Elsliger and Julia Florence Dempsey of Jacquet River, New Brunswick. Brother of Private Gerald J. Elsliger, who fought in Europe in World War II. He survived the conflict.

Served in New Brunswick, Quebec, Newfoundland with Force W, Hong Kong with Force C, Japan as a prisoner of war. He had 1,816 days of service, including 1,422 overseas.
