Baptized Joseph-Hector-Willey Lavigne. He was known as Willy and used Willie when he signed.
Son of Fidèle Lavigne and Olivine Houle (deceased in 1894); his father remarried to Marie-Denise Bourassa in 1896, of Biddeford, Maine.
He briefly served in early 1916 (service number 748430) and was discharged for misconduct.
He then re-enrolled in mid-April 1916 (between the 17th and 20th) in Saskatchewan but his original documents were lost, so he had to be officially enlisted again by the 22nd Battalion in Wailly, France, on June 1, 1918 (he stated being born in Biddeford, Maine, in 1892).
He is commemorated in the First World War Book of Remembrance as William Lavigne.
