Memorial – The 15th Battalion memorial at Hendecourt-les-Cagnicourt, France on the site of the wooded hill known during the war as ‘The Crow’s Nest’. The 15th Battalion assaulted and captured ‘The Crow’s Nest”on 01 Sept 1918 in the opening phase of the Canadian attack on the Drocourt-Queant Line. The memorial was dedicated on 26 April 2010 to those of the 15th Battalion who fell here and in the breakthrough of the D-Q line in early September 1918. DILEAS GU BRATH

Photo of Chateau Hendecourt – Photograph of Chateau Hendecourt which was destroyed in 1917 but rebuilt following the war. It is located inside a wooded area known during the war as Chateau Wood which, along with the Crow's Nest several hundred yards to its East, was part of the 15th Battalion's objective on 1 Sept 1918. Sgt Huxley and his platoon from Number 4 Company had successfully captured Chateau Wood when he was killed by a sniper's bullet. Photograph taken by the 15th Battalion Memorial Project Team during the 2010 dedication ceremony of the 15th Battalion memorial at The Crow's Nest. The post dedication reception was held at the Chateau upon invitation of the current owners who have named one of the reception rooms in honour of the 15th Battalion(48th Highlanders) who liberated the Chateau and surrounding area.
