Son of Célina Bélanger from Berlin, New Hampshire.

He enlisted on 12 February 1916 with the 189th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, and sailed for England on 23 September. He served with the 69th Battalion before being transferred to the 22nd Battalion on 27 October of the same year. On 3 November, he went to the front line. From the 21 November to 3 March 1917, he was posted to the 2nd Canadian Entrenchment Battalion. Wounded in action by a bullet at Vimy, France, on 3 May 1917, he returned to his unit on 28 March 1918. He was killed in action on 28 May 1918 during a hand-to-hand assault in a German trench east of Boisleux-St-Marc near Mercatel, France. He left his property and medals to Alice Côté, who married Riley Downing Stilson in 1917.

Wailly is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais about 6 kilometres south-west from Arras in the valley of the little river Crinchon. WAILLY ORCHARD CEMETERY stands above the village on its outskirts in part of the old orchard.
