Son of Joseph and Mary (nee Dudenhoffer) McDonnell of Rathburn, Ontario. Brother of John, Kenneth, Lawrence, Marie, Marcella, Eugene and Shirley. Husband of Helene Eve (nee Bilinski) McDonnell and father of Francine and Barbara of London, Ontario. A Commemorative Ceremony was held at Wegner Point on 11 May 2008 to honour the seven fallen paratroopers who drowned in 1968 during a para drop exercise at CFB Petawawa. Close to 100 guests, most in uniform, attended the Ceremony gathered around the Memorial Cairn. Several family members of the deceased were present for the Ceremony.
