Son of Russell Nichols and Elizabeth Rose Nichols of Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. Husband of Deanne Nichols and father of Bryce and Logan Nichols of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Captain Nichols had been on exchange with the United States Marine Corps, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 122, "The Crusaders", in Beaufort, South Carolina since July 2001.
