Constable Hooley was known by his friends as “Bill”. He was a teamster, driving a four-horse rig, and traveling with esteemed members of the NWMP at the time of his death. Constable Hooley had just signed on for a 2nd five year term with the NWMP and was thought to be in his early thirties. He drowned in the Belly River while on patrol from Fort Walsh to Fort MacLeod, Northwest Territories. His body was found one month after his death. Constable Hooley is buried in Union Cemetery at Fort MacLeod, Alberta.
