Prior to 1985, the Lanark Village Council was approached for a new location to erect a cenotaph. The council provided land and a new cenotaph in front of town hall was dedicated on September 21, 1985. Remembrance Day services have been held at the Lanark Cenotaph since its dedication.
After the First World War, Lanark village dedicated the gates and ticket booth (ticket booth building is dated 1950) at Clyde Park to the Veterans of both World Wars. Remembrance Day Services took place at the gates of the park before the Lanark Cenotaph was built.
