The Cenotaph was erected in Victoria Park, in commemoration of people from the local area who served and died during military service. The tall stone pillar has a landscaped surround, and flagpole. The column has a cross carved on one side above the years of the First War, 1918, 1917, 1916, 1915, 1914. In front, embedded in stone, is a real sword. On the flat surface in front of that, YPRES to MONS.
