This bronze plaque was unveiled in memory of Captain Clarence Dickinson Hamilton, Canadian Army Medical Corps.
Clarence Dickinson Hamilton was born in Cornwall, Ontario on 18 December 1883. He was educated at Cornwall Public School as well as Cornwall High School. He continued his studies at the University of Toronto and McGill University, graduating from McGill in 1911. He went on to practice medicine in Cornwall before joining the military at the outbreak of the First World War.
He embarked for England in the summer of 1915 as a member of the 141st Field Ambulance, RAMC. While overseas, he also served as Medical Officer for the 2nd Royal Sussex Regiment and the 1st Battalion, The Black Watch. Hamilton then transferred to the Canadian Army Medical Corps and returned to Canada. In September 1918, he once again embarked for overseas service, crossing on the troop transport ship HUNTSEND. While en route, he succumbed to influenza and on 9 October 1918, was buried at sea.
With no known grave, Captain Clarence Dickinson Hamilton is memorialized on the Halifax Memorial.
