Three Generations to Celebrate Vimy 100
Heroes Remember
Transcript
I think it’s an amazing, an awesome plan,
ceremony that’s planned and I hope the
rest of the world will see that, I believe there
will be a lot of TV coverage around and I hope
they can get the message about war and
how these people died for peace and
I feel that war is obsolete really.
War isn’t war anymore, it’s all destruction,
that’s all it is. That’s a better word for it.
And I think for people to get into another
war like that well, I can’t believe
there would be anything left.
I think it will be so destructive,
both the winners and the losers as it
hurts both of us. Surely if this ceremony
and the very fact that this is happening
I think it is an important part of history
if this message were to circulate or get to
people and they would come to grips with
it in a meaningful way and work toward
peace rather than work toward war.
That’s what I feel. The intent or I like to
believe it is the intent but it is the hope
because that’s what the soldiers that
were in Vimy 100 years ago,
that’s what they hoped for.
And I look at Vimy as a torch that we now
hold and this ceremony will hold to the world.
And that’s the message I hope that will
permeate amongst nations in the world
because Canada is a country of immigrants.
We’re getting along, we are making everything
work and why can’t other countries do that.
And I think if that’ll do, it will be a just reward for the
people who came 100 years ago, that generation.
There are three generations involved in the
people that are coming from Canada.
I understand there will be students from
high schools included in the people coming.
I think this is appropriate that we three generations,
the ones that are still that young and the
people still the working age and the retired age.
And I think when you can see that it’s all
from different parts of the world, you see
when all people can get together from
any age to do this.
I feel very honoured by the regiment for
nominating me to represent the regiment
that was here at Vimy 100 years ago and
it is indeed a great honour.
