PRIVATE THOMAS WILLIAM TOMMY HOLMES V.C.
MEMORIAL ARMOURY

Private Holmes enlisted in the 147th Infantry Battalion
in 1915, later transferring to the 4th Canadian Mounted
Rifles. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous
bravery during the opening attack at Passchendale in
October 1917 where he single handedly captured a vital
enemy strong point that was holding up the right flank
of the Canadian Advance.
