Cénotaphe d'Altona et District

Construit en 1995 à la mémoire des victimes de la Première et de la Seconde Guerres mondiales, le cénotaphe d’Altona et District a été inauguré le 29 juillet 1995. Il s’agissait d’un projet du Club optimiste d’Altona-Gretna à l’occasion du centenaire d’Altona, en 1995. Il a été conçu par Altona Memorials, en consultation avec plusieurs anciens combattants et le Club. 

En raison d’un important projet de travaux de drainage en 2021 au centre-ville d’Altona, le cénotaphe a dû être déplacé de l’angle de la 2Rue Nord-Est et de la 4Avenue Nord-Est. Grâce à la contribution financière de la Ville d’Altona et d’Anciens Combattants Canada, le cénotaphe a été déménagé à son nouvel emplacement, à l’extérieur du Millennium Exhibition Center.
