At the top of the marker is engraved "Known to be buried in the cemetery."
The place was used by Advanced Dressing Stations and burials took place there both before and after the Battle of Mount Sorrel in June 1916. In the morning of 2 June, an intense German artillery barrage destroyed most of the Canadian trenches and heavily bombarded their nearby artillery locations. After bring driven back to within two km of Ypres, the Canadians counter-attacked and were successful in regaining all of their trenches but at a cost of 8,478 killed and wounded between 2 -14 June. Bodies were never identified or never recovered largely because the area was fought over and continuously shelled until late 1918. Of the graves known to exist there, only a small number could be definitely located.

CIMETIÈRE MAPLE COPSE Belgique
Le cimetière Maple Copse est situé à 5 kilomètres au sud-est du centre-ville d'Ypres, sur une route qui mène à la Meenseweg (N8), reliant Ypres à Menin. À partir du centre-ville d'Ypres, rendez-vous sur la Meenseweg par la Torhoutstraat en continuant tout droit sur la Basculestraat. La Basculestraat se termine sur un carrefour important, et après celui-ci débute la Meenseweg. Conduisez sur une distance de 2,5 kilomètres sur la Meenseweg et tout de suite après le cimetière « Birr Cross Roads », tournez à droite sur la Wulvestraat. Parcourez un kilomètre et tournez à gauche sur la Schachteweidestraat. Le cimetière se trouve du côté droit de cette route, à 2 kilomètres.
