2415 Captain William Lawton Ridout (RMC 1934) was the son of G. Lawton Ridout and Dorothy A. Ridout, of Toronto, Ontario. He served with the Gurkha Rifles, 9th division. He was mentioned in dispatches for gallant and distinguished services in Malaya. He was killed in action on Dec 13, 1941 at 24 years of age. His name is listed on the Singapore Memorial in Singapore.

MÉMORIAL DE SINGAPOUR Singapour
En Extrême-Orient, le Mémorial de Singapour porte sur ses colonnes les noms de plus de 24 000 soldats et aviateurs du Commonwealth et de l'Empire britannique dont la sépulture est inconnue. Les aviateurs dont les noms sont inscrits sur le Mémorial périrent au cours d'opérations menées sur toute l'étendue du sud et de l'est de l'Asie ainsi que sur les mers et les océans environnants.
Le Mémorial est situé dans le cimetière de guerre de Kranji. La pente du sentier principal du cimetière augmente légèrement à partir de la Pierre du Souvenir, près de l'entrée, vers la Croix du Sacrifice, derrière laquelle des marches mènent à une terrasse aménagée sur la crête d'une colline où s'élève le Mémorial.
Les panneaux sur lesquels figurent les noms des morts sont apposés aux douze larges colonnes qui soutiennent un toit plat qui sert à protéger les noms inscrits et à donner ombrage et abri au visiteur. Un gros pylône, haut de 24 mètres et surplombé d'une étoile, traverse le centre du toit. À la base de ce pylône, on peut lire sur un panneau incurvé une inscription en anglais dont voici la traduction : 1939-1945 « Sur les murs de ce Mémorial figurent les noms de 24 000 soldats et aviateurs de nombreuses races unis par leur dévouement envers la couronne britannique qui ont donné leur vie en Malaisie et dans les terres et les mers avoisinantes et au cours de combats aériens menés au-dessus du sud et de l'est de l'Asie et du Pacifique, et que les hasards de la guerre ont empêchés d'avoir une sépulture honorable comme leurs camarades tombés au combat. ».
Le cimetière de guerre de Kranji est à 22 kilomètres au nord de la ville de Singapour, du côté nord de l'île de Singapour, et il surplombe le détroit de Johore. Il se trouve au sortir de la route allant de Singapore à Johore (Woodlands) à la borne kilométrique 13 ½. À partir de la route principale, il y a une petite route d'accès. Dans la région, le cimetière est connu sous le nom de Mémorial de Kranji.
