Canada's role in the First World War is told through the eyes of a young student researching a school project. From mobilization, to the 1914 gas attack at Ypres, the Newfoundland Regiment and the Battle of the Somme, the victory at Vimy Ridge, the tragedy of Passchendaele, and the final days of the war, as the long period of trench warfare ends and the allies advance through enemy lines to victory, this video gives an excellent overview of the war.

Canadians held the line. Ypres will be forever remembered because of the fighting spirit
of the Canadians. Thanks to our soldiers, the German advance was stopped.
Never mind that it took 6,000 Canadian casualties to achieve that. Back home this
was considered a victory, albeit it a costly one. It was here to that our boys
first gained a reputation for being a tough and rugged bunch of fighters.
After Ypres everyone knew that when Canadians were involved
the fighting would be tough. The Prime Minister of England
later wrote that whenever the Germans faced the Canadian Corps coming into the line,
they prepared for the worst.
