Photo take by a friend of Kelly Ann Purdy (grand niece of Capt. D.G. Purdy):Craig McKay, who is a Petty Officer 2nd Class with the Navy is serving in Afghanistan until September 2009. He is on his HLTA leave and travelling all over Europe and happened to be in France today (Tuesday, 30 June 2009).<P>
He sent out a text message to all his friends from the beaches of Dieppe, and then he went to the nearby Canadian War Cemetery near Dieppe. He quickly found a headstone that is very important to the Purdy family and using the power of his amazing cell phone, he snapped a great picture to share of how it looked today, flowers in bloom and all surrounding the monument - June 30, 2009. The inscription reads:<P>
Captain<BR>
D.G. Purdy<BR>
The Calgary Regiment<BR>
19th August 1942<BR> Age 22<P>
Truth, Duty, Valor:<BR>
Fear Naught<BR>
Rest in Peace, Dear One<BR>

2661 Capt Douglas Gordon Purdy (RMC 1938) was the son of Gordon Stanley Purdy and Margaret Lundrigan Purdy, of White Rock, British Columbia. He served with the Calgary Regiment, R.C.A.C., 14th Army Tank Regiment. He died on Aug 19, 1942. He was buried on the Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery (Hautot-Sur-Mer), Seine-Maritime, France A. 23.

This is a photo of the Memorial Drive Cross for Douglas Gordon Purdy. The Field of Crosses, is a park reserved along Calgary’s Memorial Drive for 3,000 white crosses which are displayed each year on Nov. 1st and removed Nov, 12th. Special thanks to the late George Bittman - he played such a huge role in creating this wonderful memorial to our fallen soldiers. Our Great Uncle's name was in his personal notes and last year a cross was added to remember him.
Our Great Grandmother would be so proud - she was recognized twice as a Silver Cross Mother and never stopped morning her brave son a day in her life. She lived to 100.

Captain Purdy's grave marker, photographed at the 75th anniversary ceremony at the cemetery in 2017. The shadow was cast on the stone by a son of a veteran of the Calgary Regiment and the Dieppe Raid.

CIMETIÈRE DE GUERRE CANADIEN DE DIEPPE (HAUTOT-SUR-MER) Seine-Maritime, France
Depuis le centre de Dieppe, prenez l'avenue Gambetti et l'avenue des Canadiens. Longez la N27 pour sortir de Dieppe en direction de Rouen jusqu'au carrefour giratoire où il y a le sigle de la Commission des sépultures de guerre du Commonwealth. Passez à travers du carrefour giratoire et continuez jusqu'à ce que vous atteigniez le deuxième carrefour giratoire. Prenez le premier virage à droite où il y a un autre sigle CWGC. Continuez jusqu'au chemin des Jonquiles, une route située à gauche. Le Cimetière de Guerre Canadien de Dieppe est situé à droite de cette route et est clairement visible.
