Le Monument commémoratif Youth in Partnership with Veterans a été inauguré le 20 octobre 2000. Cet élément de l’histoire de Manitoulin a été reconstruit dans le cadre d’un projet de partenariat canadien du millénaire entre la Légion royale canadienne, la filiale no 177 de Little Current et la filiale no 514 de Western Manitoulin, et les élèves des écoles de la région de Manitoulin. Le monument est un exemple de jeunes et de vétérans travaillant en harmonie et dans le respect les uns des autres.

Après le dévoilement du monument, une cérémonie de passage du flambeau des vétérans aux représentants des élèves de chaque école du district de Manitoulin a eu lieu. Elle visait à souligner que les jeunes porteront le flambeau des vétérans, que le souvenir de leur sacrifice se perpétuera au XXIe siècle et que ce pour quoi ils se sont battus n’a pas été vain.

Les écoles suivantes de Manitoulin ont participé à ce projet historique du nouveau millénaire.

This plaque is dedicated to all members of the military medical
services of Canada, and in particular to those nursing sisters who
cared for the sick and wounded in all wars of the twentieth
century.  It recognizes with gratitude the contributions made by
volunteers from St. John Ambulance, the Canadian Red Cross,
and Victorian Order of Nurses who supplemented the staffing of
field hospitals and first aid posts during the war years.  For their
continued humanitarian activities and support of the medical
profession in times of peace, the people of the District of
Manitoulin are truly grateful

THE MANITOULIN WOMEN'S MEMORIAL
This Memorial is dedicated to all women who served in the wars of the twentieth century.
The honour roll pays tribute to those women who will forever be unique as the first to
serve in Canada's Armed Forces in WWII.

After WWII, all women's units of the Canadian Army, Navy and Air Force were disbanded
only to be recalled in 1951 for service during the Korean War.

With modern day restructuring of the Canadian Armed Forces, individual female units no
longer exist.  Women now stand equal to men in service to their country.  May the women
who serve today do so with pride, ever remembering the contribution of those who served
before them.

Special tribute is paid to the women who served as Canadian Nursing Sisters, members
of the military medical profession and to all those volunteers who served in field hospitals
and first aid posts, caring for the sick and wounded in all wars of the twentieth century.

We also honour those women who served on the home front supporting the troops each in
her own way, for together they made a difference.

AS PROUD CANADIANS THESES WOMEN HAVE SERVED CANADA BEYOND ALL
EXPECTATIONS.  THEY WILL EVER BE REMEMBERED WITH HONOUR, PRIDE,
RESPECT AND APPRECIATION.

Cette pierre et cette plaque sont à la mémoire du lieutenant Donald Wellman, qui a péri à cet endroit dans l’écrasement d’un hélicoptère. Le 10 octobre 1991, un Twin Huey CH-135 (suffixe numérique 115) du 408e Escadron tactique d’hélicoptères « Goose », de la BFC Namao (Edmonton), s’est écrasé à dix milles à l’ouest de Burk’s Falls (Ontario). Il y a eu deux rescapés, qui ont été projetés loin du lieu de l’écrasement, mais le lieutenant Wellman n’a pas survécu.

Il y avait aussi un mémorial en son honneur sur le site de l’accident.

Le Monument commémoratif de la marine marchande a été inauguré le 5 juin 1944. Il a été conçu par John Bryan de Providence Bay. L’ancre a été récupérée dans les eaux de Providence Bay et offerte aux constructeurs du monument.

Au printemps 2002, six plaques de bronze nommant les 72 navires marchands perdus pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale ont été achevées. Trois vétérans de la marine, soit John Bryan, de Providence Bay, Allan Tustian, de Mindemoya et Ed Kift, de Little Current, sont à l’origine de ce monument. Une cérémonie de nouvelle dédicace du Monument commémoratif a eu lieu le 25 mai 2002, où les plaques ont été dévoilées par l’honorable Art Egleton, ministre de la Défense nationale, assisté des camarades Allen Tustian et Norm Smith.
