Mr. MacFarlane is a Veteran of the Korean War and a retired Canadian Forces Veteran. He has been an active member of Unit #54 of the Korea Veterans Association of Canada since 1989. Mr. MacFarlane has served on the Board of Directors for approximately 16 years and served as secretary-treasurer for 14 years. For the past 12 years, Mr. MacFarlane has been Chairman of Unit #54’s casino where he is responsible for ensuring volunteers are available to work the casinos as well as organizing presentation ceremonies. Under his leadership, Unit #54 has raised close to $500,000 for charitable organizations such as the Colonel Belcher Hospital and various Cadet Corps within the Calgary region. In 1996, Mr. MacFarlane was in charge of registration for the Korea Veterans Association convention held in Calgary. This was the largest convention held in the Association’s history and Unit #54 was the only unit without a deficit. On oxygen now as a lung cancer survivor, Mr. MacFarlane continues to be active within Unit #54.
