Ann ten Pierik

Calgary, Alberta

Mrs. ten Pierik was a child in Holland when Canadian soldiers liberated her town. Wanting to share her memories of the sacrifices and actions of Canadian soldiers during the Second World War, Mrs. ten Pierik chose to do this by volunteering at the Military Museums in Calgary. Since 1996, she has influenced and assisted in many areas of the museum from being front desk host, to greeting visitors. Mrs. ten Pierik assisted with monthly bingos, is an outreach speaker at a variety of schools during the annual Remembrance period and was also the year-round education program consultant at the museum for five years. For the past 15 years, she has attended a teacher’s convention twice annually, to increase their awareness of available education programs. Mrs. ten Pierik was instrumental in starting up the museum’s gift shop four years ago and she continues to be an active presence in the museum at least three days per week. Her dedication and commitment to military history and Veterans is commendable.
