Barry William Drews

Mr. Drews is the son of a Canadian Veteran. In 2007, he joined the Canadian Army Veterans (CAV) Motorcycle Ubique Unit. He was first appointed as sergeant-at-arms and then became president, raising the organization’s membership from 4 to 27 members within four months. He served as the unit’s president until 2012, and he currently serves as president of the 3rd CAV ROME Unit. Since 2011, Mr. Drews has held the position of Canadian Army Veterans National Operations Person in Charge, and worked actively to get “Highway of Heroes” dedications for the Trans-Canada Highway all across Canada. Five years ago, Mr. Drews’ commitment to remembrance led him to organize an annual Memorial Ride for the Fallen. More than 1,000 motorcyclists rode from Vancouver to Chilliwack, and raised nearly $10,000 that was donated to the Wounded Warriors Foundation. Mr. Drews assists CAF Veterans who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder by providing counselling and assisting them in finding the right type of long-term care. He participates in the annual cenotaph service for Silver Cross families and Remembrance Day services, laying wreaths on behalf of CAV Motorcycle units. Since 2008, Mr. Drews has liaised with Veterans Affairs Canada to ensure that Veterans belonging to CAV Motorcycle units have the opportunity to participate in the Salute to Veterans event put on during half-time at the BC Lions football game each November. Mr. Drews is also actively involved in fundraising initiatives for the Wounded Warriors Foundation, the Military Family Resource Centre, the George Derby Centre, and Honour House.
