Ben Rowsell

Corner Brook, Newfoundland & Labrador

Mr. Rowsell is a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran who served in the Naval Reserve. He joined the Royal Canadian Legion in 1999 and has held numerous executive positions within the Corner Brook Branch. For twelve years, Mr. Rowsell served as the Chair of the Legion’s Sick and Visiting Committee and ensured that the Veterans in the long-term care centre and those hospitalized at the Western Memorial Region Hospital were visited on a weekly basis. Under his direction, the committee ensured that the physical needs of Veterans were taken care of, and that they were not forgotten. Mr. Rowsell regularly visits the Veterans in the long-term care centre and those hospitalized at the Western Memorial Region Hospital as well as Veterans that are confined to their own homes and supplies them with a cake on their birthday. Mr. Rowsell is an avid supporter of the Poppy Campaign and he helps to place poppy trays in local businesses, ensuring that they are always stocked with poppies. His commitment to supporting Veterans has led him to visit local schools to help young Canadians learn about the sacrifices of Canadian Veterans, and to help sell Nevada break-open tickets during the Legion’s weekly bingo. His efforts have helped the Corner Brook Branch establish three scholarships for students in financial need.
