Bruce Henwood

Major Henwood retired from the Canadian Forces after 24 years of service. During his military time in Croatia, he was severely wounded after his vehicle struck an anti-tank mine. Major Henwood was awarded the Land Forces Commander’s Commendation for his actions in Croatia as well as for his determination in his extensive recovery. Major Henwood was instrumental in having the Canadian Forces disability insurance program overhauled providing tangible compensation to all soldiers severely injured in the line of duty. In 2004, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his actions in changing the military’s compensation plan. He was the chairperson of the former Veterans Affairs Canada Advisory Group on Special Needs and has provided Veterans Affairs Canada with extensive reports highlighting the ongoing needs of disabled Veterans. In addition, Major Henwood is actively involved in various Veterans’ organizations in which he continues to provide the federal government with important, up-to-date information, support and advice pertaining to seriously disabled Veterans.
