Capt. Rev. J. Russ Sutherland

Maple Ridge, British Columbia

Mr. Sutherland is a Veteran of the Korean War and has several years of post-war service with the United Nations. Mr. Sutherland has been active in the Rotarian and Kiwanis Clubs, the Salvation Army, and for the past 28 years, has been involved with The Royal Canadian Legion's Branch No. 88. During his years as a volunteer with the Salvation Army, Mr. Sutherland served as a Chaplain and conducted more than 100 funerals. While at CFB Comox, Mr. Sutherland helped with the establishment of the foundation of the Red Shield Operation, which worked effectively to provide support to military families on base. Over the years, Mr. Sutherland has devoted much of his free time to meeting with families in need, visiting homes and patients in hospitals and spending countless nights with Veterans to share their final hours with them. Mr. Sutherland's unstinting service to the cause of Veterans has left a lasting impression on his fellow citizens.
