A Veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Roy is a former President of the Yarmouth Branch No. 61 of the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL), where he has also served in several key positions over the years. An active member of the RCL Choir, Mr. Roy sings at funeral services for Veterans and also brings cheer and song to Veterans residing at the local hospital. Mr. Roy is a prolific volunteer in the town of Yarmouth and is quick to offer his assistance to various community-based activities. Mr. Roy has been involved with the Poppy Campaign for many years and also volunteers his time to local food and fuel banks. He has also helped the Victoria Order of Nurses (VON) raise thousands of dollars for their organization. Over a period of five intense months, Mr. Roy raised more than $10,000 towards erecting a Korea War Memorial in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The fruit of Mr. Roy's outstanding work and steadfast determination culminated when the Forgotten War monument was unveiled on August 16, 2003. Of the 516 Korean War Veterans to lose their lives during the war, 29 were from Nova Scotia. Mr. Roy worked tirelessly to ensure that these Veterans would not be forgotten by having their names inscribed on the Monument.
