As Dominion President of The Royal Canadian Legion, Chuck Murphy was one of the primary driving forces behind the Legion's effort to create The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. Over a period of two years, Mr. Murphy spent countless hours meetings with Veterans groups, government departments and many other key partners. Mr. Murphy's commitment to this cause became his legacy. Mr. Murphy's dedication to Veterans' well-being began when he joined the Collingwood Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion in 1969. Two years later, he became Branch President and was elected President of the Pacific Council in 1988. He was also active on Dominion committees and chaired the Public Relations and Youth committees, as well as the Track and Field and Planning and Administration sub-committees. Mr. Murphy served on the Dominion Executive Council for nine years - seven as a Dominion Vice-President and moved up through Pacific Command, serving as President in 1989-91. He was elected Dominion Vice-President by Dominion Executive Council in 1991 and became Dominion President in 1998. Mr. Murphy passed away in 2000.
