Charles Marinier

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec

Mr. Marinier is a Second World War veteran. He was an armourer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He is a member of his local Royal Canadian Legion branch, where he is current-ly the welfare director on the administrative committee and is in charge of loaning out equipment to persons with disabilities. In addition to this work, he is also a member of a multidisciplinary committee working together on the process of re-educating and rehabilitating Canadian Armed Forces members with disabilities. Determined to help veterans, Mr. Marinier has planned meetings to mark significant anniversaries for veterans from the local area and from elsewhere. He participates very actively in commemorative ceremonies and parades organized by the Legion and his community. Mr. Marinier regularly escorts recruits from the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu to the National Field of Honour in Pointe-Claire, and he attends graduation ceremonies and talks to graduates about veterans. Mr. Marinier devotes much of his time to working actively with the Poppy Campaign and continues visiting veterans in hospital and in their homes.
