Mr. Kornberger is a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the special forces as Corporal until his discharge in 1954. He has been a member of the Regina Unit of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS) for the past 37 years. Mr. Kornberger served as Unit President on the Board of Directors, then served as the Provincial Command's Sports Officer for 13 years. He is currently President of the Saskatchewan Command and in his current position, ensures that the Veterans of North and South Saskatchewan have representatives to see that the needs of the Veterans are being met. Mr. Kornberger appointed two comrades in the North and South Commands of the province to assist him with his duties. Every year since 1988, Mr. Kornberger volunteers on November 11 to speak at W.F. Ready School, sharing his knowledge of the First and Second World War and the Korea War, and he also organizes a Wreath Laying Ceremony with the students. For the past 12 years, he has been invited by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan to attend Canada Day festivities at the Legislative Building. Mr. Kornberger continues to be an advocate for Veterans in his participation on the Veterans Liaison Committee - Regina.
