Todd Martin, a Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, is nominated for his work with The Royal Canadian Legion and Wounded Warriors.
As a member of the RCL, he represents his branch at sporting events and also volunteers for parades, ceremonies and social activities. He is regularly invited to speak at schools, Legion halls and with the media about his experiences and the importance of physical and mental health as well as the sacrifices made by Veterans. He has helped the RCL branch in marking Remembrance Day with street banners honouring individual Veterans, including one with his grandfather’s image.
Having developed an affinity for cycling, it was a natural fit for him to join the Wounded Warrior’s Battlefield Bike Ride 2019: Operation Overlord. He personally raised over $19,000 in donations for the Wounded Warrior’s programs. He is planning to complete the 2020 bike ride for which he raised over $14,000. The ride, which will focus on the Liberation of the Netherlands has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he plans to go as soon as it is safe to do so. In February 2020, he joined a local school for an event that advances physical and mental health and allowed him to share information about Wounded Warriors.
