Mr. Poole enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1944 and served until June 1946. Four years later, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and 25 years later, he retired at the rank of Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class. During that time, he also served as a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Benevolent Fund, eventually becoming a Director and in May 2005, he was presented with a certificate for his 35 years of devoted service. In addition to his membership in the Royal Canadian Legion as well as the Chiefs and Petty Officers Association, Mr. Poole is a very active member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans of Canada which he has served in many capacities. He was elected President of the Sidney Unit 302 for 2 years and he currently serves on the Finance Committee of the Provincial Command. Mr. Poole also serves as a Director of the Provincial Command Senior’s Housing Committee as well as Director of the Veterans Care Society of Victoria, British Columbia. His contribution has been recognized by many honours and awards including the American Legion Friendship Award, ANAVETS Appreciation Medal as well as Life Membership.
