David B. Munro CD

A former member of the Canadian Forces with service in several peacekeeping missions overseas, Mr. Munro has held various executive-level positions in The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL). For the past 10 years, Mr. Munro has been Director of the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association (CPVA), and previously served a term as its National Vice President. Mr. Munro assists clients on Vancouver Island with their applications for financial support from the military Benevolent Fund and from United Way agencies. Mr. Munro helped more than 100 clients apply for claims from Veterans Affairs Canada as well as clients with claims for organizations other than VAC. Mr. Munro travels 120 kilometres, 4 days a week to provide assistance to Veterans who live in the region. He is Chair of the Housing Committee of the RCL, whose present objective is to ensure that 50 affordable housing units are made available to Veterans, seniors and the disabled in 2004, and also helps Veterans with their applications for pensions, seniors' housing and old age security. Mr. Munro is active in many fundraising organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the Hamper Fund, annual Poppy Campaigns, and volunteers for the annual local food bank drive. Mr. Munro is noted in his community for taking an exceptional interest in the well-being of fellow Veterans and for devoting extraordinary efforts to ensuring that their needs are met.
