David Laxton

Whitehorse, Yukon

Mr. Laxton is a retired Canadian Forces Veteran. He has held many positions on the branch executive and is currently the past president of The Royal Canadian Legion’s Branch 254. He was also elected to the British Columbia / Yukon Command Executive. Mr. Laxton has taken on master of ceremonies and coordinator roles for commemorative events including Remembrance Day, Peacekeeping parades, presentations and awards. He spearheaded a fundraising effort for a plaque to be installed dedicating the grounds around the City of Whitehorse’s Cenotaph as Veterans Square. Mr. Laxton was Chair of the Local Arrangements Committee when Whitehorse hosted the BC/Yukon Command Convention in 2005, the Year of the Veteran. This effort, over two years, resulted in a highly successful event. For four years, Mr. Laxton was a co-chair for the branch’s Seniors Supportive Living Complex project which was to provide housing for seniors living in Yukon. He also raised funds for, and awareness of, a Veterans' Transition Program for Yukon Veterans. Mr. Laxton is the chair of the Whitehorse Housing Authority, President of the Western Arctic Region of the Army Cadet League of Canada, chair of the Yukon Public Legal Education Association and Director of the Childhood Development Centre.
