Souris, Prince Edward Island
David Leslie Perry was nominated for his involvement and dedication with The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3 Souris.
A long-time member of the RCL Branch #3, he had come to realize that the finances of the branch were not healthy. To that effect, he proceeded to dedicate his time to help improve the financial stability of the branch with fundraising events and membership campaigns.
As President of the RCL Branch #3, he has undertaken two significant projects that have had an important impact on the community and its Veterans. First he acted as project manager over the construction of a new Legion hall. He obtained financial support from the federal, provincial and municipal governments as well as from community fundraising. The funds were used to build a new hall which would become a focal point for Veterans and the community. The new hall is fully accessible and is also the home of the local food bank and the Lions Club. The second project he led was the design and construction of a Veterans’ monument. He led the research for the almost 1,800 names listed on the new monument and once again managed the design and construction.
He is quick to help Veterans and families acquire financial assistance and the benefits they are entitled to. He ensures that every deceased Veteran has a Legion Visitation Service, representation at their funeral and grave marker to honour their sacrifice.
