David Sinclair

Mr. Sinclair joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1953 and served 25 years before retiring from the Canadian Forces in 1977. After joining Royal Canadian Legion Britannia Branch 7 in Victoria, he has served in executive positions at the Branch, Zone and Command. He is currently 2nd Vice President of British Columbia - Yukon Command. He is also Chairman of the Military Services and Associations Committee and Chairman of the Command Public Relations Committee. Mr. Sinclair was instrumental in launching a program called "The Canadian Military & Veterans Transition Program" which has established clinics to help military members - both serving and retired - as well as their families with operational stress. He also initiated "Wellness Seminars" for aging Veterans which has expanded province- wide. Mr. Sinclair is also President of South Vancouver Island Zone Housing society where he has overseen all aspects of a major expansion project to a 143-unit complex which provides assited and independent living for Veterans. Despite his enormous workload, he also regularly visits Veterans at Broadmead Lodge and participates in the Second Career Assistance Network Seminars to assist military members make the transition to civilian life. In 2005, Mr. Sinclair was asked to sit on the Premier’s Council on Seniors and Aging Issues. More recently, in May, 2007, Mr. Sinclair was named Citizen of the Year for Greater Victoria.
