A Veteran of the Canadian Forces, Mr. Mackey is the Chair of the Sgt. Tommy Prince, Military Medal Memorial Fund Committee in Winnipeg. He also helped to form the Tommy Prince, Military Medal Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Winnipeg and has dedicated a monument at Sgt. Tommy Prince Veterans Park. In an effort to encourage young people in the local community to take an interest in Aboriginal military history and the achievements of Aboriginal Veterans, he commissioned the painting of five Aboriginal wall murals on display near Tommy Prince Street in Winnipeg. He also secured annual funding to set up a grant in the name of Tommy Prince for five members of the Army Cadet Corps in Manitoba. Mr. Mackey has proven himself to be an excellent role model for those who wish to honour and remember all of Canada's Veterans and service men and women.
