Mr. Newell served in the Canadian Forces and with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His involvement with the Last Post Fund has been extensive, beginning in 1998 when he became a director. Since that time, he has held progressively more senior positions, culminating with his election as National President in 2007. Numerous organizations have benefited from Mr. Newell's considerable experience and expertise. He has devoted his energy to service and Veterans' organizations which include, among others: member and Treasurer of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Advisory Council; life member and Treasurer on the Annual General Meeting Planning Committee of the RCMP Veterans Association; Royal Canadian Legion member; member of the Naval Officers Association of Canada; past member and Director of the Crow's Nest Officers' Club and Past Chairman, Grace General Hospital Foundation.
