Edmund Nicholson

Mr. Nicholson is a Veteran of the Second World War, Korean War and the son of a First World War Veteran. He has been an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion since 1952. He participates in numerous ceremonial events and parades in North Bay, Kirkland Lake and in Warrior's Day parades in Toronto. Mr. Nicholson is a member of the Legion Branch's Colour Party and the Branch Provincial Colour Party. He delivers fruit baskets and get-well cards to Veterans in hospitals and homes. He has spent years working on Branch 23's Poppy Campaign and has participated in countless services in funeral homes. In 1992, Mr. Nicholson discovered his father's name was missing from a scroll commemorating War Veterans. He has since devoted his time researching other missing names from the North Bay area who served in the South African War, both World Wars, Korea, the Persian Gulf, United Nations and NATO missions. In 2009, he published the reference book, "North Bay Area War Veterans Honour Roll." Mr. Nicholson is the recipient of the Queen's Silver and Golden Jubilee Medals and the Canada 125 Medal in recognition of his significant contribution to his comrades and community. He has been a Korea Veterans Association Ontario Region Director for 20 years and a member for 35 years. It was Mr. Nicholson's concept to have the Memorial Wall erected in North Bay, and he researched the Veterans' names engraved on the Wall.
