Conception Bay South, Newfoundland & Labrador
Eileen Kavanagh has dedicated 15 years to the care and promotion of Veteran’s needs.
She helped with the organization and presentation of two Veterans mental health first aid courses at The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 50.
She has assisted Veterans with their Veterans Affairs Canada applications and has ensured Veterans in need received their required medical equipment.
For over 10 years, she has helped organize and deliver the Poster and Literary contests in the schools surrounding Conception Bay South. This involves contacting the teachers to ensure their students are participating, and sitting on the provincial command committee which judges submitted documents. These contests have been very successful and help to keep the memories of Veterans alive. Winning submissions are forwarded to The Royal Canadian Legion National Command.
One of her greatest accomplishments came during a financial crisis, when the Legion branch was defrauded $70,000. She stepped in to assist and personally coordinated and controlled fundraising events to eliminate a debt which was threatening Veterans’ services offered by the Legion. The loan, which she arranged through the bank, was paid off well before its due date.
