Calgary, Alberta
Mrs. Morrell is both a widow and a daughter of a Veteran. She has consistently been one of the mainstay volunteers serving Veterans who live in long-term care facilities in Calgary. Mrs. Morrell was one of the original members of the Veterans Task Force Calgary and served more than 20 years. During the construction of the new Colonel Belcher Centre, Mrs. Morrell served on many committees providing sound advice on many issues such as design of banisters, beds, other Veterans facilities, dining rooms and showers. Both her father and husband were residents of the old Colonel Belcher Centre, and Mrs. Morrell continues to visit the remaining Veterans at the new facility almost daily. Her visits are much appreciated by residents and staff as she goes the extra mile by shuttling Veterans to/from the auditorium, church, coffee shop and treatment rooms. She is also a member of a group called Vets Angels, which she says makes it easier for her to do many things for the Veterans at the Colonel Belcher Centre. Mrs. Morrell is a recipient of the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award.
