Fred Richardson

Mr. Richardson is a Veteran who was honourably released from the Canadian Forces in 1969. Through his remarkable dedication and outstanding organizational skills, he has made an immense contribution to the Carleton Consolidated Legion Branch 167. As an active supporter of constructing the new building, Mr. Richardson has served in nearly all executive capacities including Secretary, President, and Past-President over the past sixteen years. He is currently the Treasurer where he continues to assist with numerous fund-raising activities. He also represents the Branch at Dominion and Provincial Command Conventions. In addition to his work at the Branch, Mr. Richardson also reaches out to help local Veterans. He often transports disabled Veterans to medical appointments in Halifax, a 600 km return trip. He makes weekly visits to hospitalized Veterans who are special guests at the annual community dinner he organizes for all local Veterans. Mr. Richardson also participates in Remembrance Day services and he visits local schools to speak with youth. On his own initiative, he created a memory wall in the Branch which preserves the histories of local Veterans and he was instrumental in making sure that any unmarked graves in the area served by Branch 167 were appropriately identified with a cross bearing the name of the Veteran and a poppy.
