Frederick Dawson

Mr. Frederick Dawson is a Veteran of the Second World War. After the war, he attended McGill University and obtained a degree in architecture. He closed his architectural practice in 1990 and began painting with oils. His paintings were recognized and accepted by collectors and galleries in Montréal. In 2005, wanting to contribute to the success of the "Year of the Veteran," Mr. Dawson began painting numerous oils of notable war memorials in Quebec, the Maritimes and Ontario, so that Canada's war sacrifices could be commemorated. This dedicated work continued for two years at which time 31 paintings of various sizes were produced. In 2010, the Royal Military College of Canada formally accepted all of these paintings and placed them on permanent display. Prior to their acquisition by the College, the paintings were exhibited in various locations and publicized in the Montreal Gazette. These permanent pictorials depicting Canada's military memorials greatly contribute to the remembrance and contributions of Veterans. Mr. Dawson has also been a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for the past 17 years.
