Frederick Wicks

Mr. Wicks is a Veteran of the Korean War and a Canadian Forces Veteran. He has been an active member of Canadian Legion for more than 45 years and is heavily involved with Veterans’ Week activities at Branch #50. Each year, Mr. Wicks escorts hundreds of students who visit his Branch during Veterans’ Week and as well, he visits schools to speak to youth about Canada’s military history. Mr. Wicks currently serves on Branch #50’s Monument of Honour Committee, where his continuous fundraising efforts are helping in the progress of the construction of a monument recognizing all local Veterans. He has attended local services which pay tribute to fallen soldiers who served in Afghanistan and has given freely of his time to spend with parents and families of these soldiers and as well, he has provided comfort and assistance to Canadian soldiers returning from Afghanistan. Mr. Wicks has corresponded with local NATO soldiers serving abroad, which helps to keep members up to date on current activities from home. Mr. Wicks’ dedication to the military and Veterans inspired his son and grandson to become members of the Canadian Forces.
