Fredrick Johnson

Thunder Bay, Ontario

Major (Ret'd) Johnson has been heavily involved in the military throughout his life, beginning with his service and into his retirement years. He has dedicated himself to a number of important projects. Upon learning of the unmarked burial site of First World War era battlefield artist Mary Riter Hamilton, Mr. Johnson managed a project the purpose of which was to raise funds and purchase a proper headstone. He organized the centennial celebration of his unit and persuaded the city of Thunder Bay to agree to name the field on which the 52nd Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force mobilized in 1915 as the "Military Field". He also organized the memorial stone marker and the dedication ceremony. Mr. Johnson has served on the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment's Senate and as a volunteer with the Thunder Bay Military Museum.
