George Aucoin

A veteran of the Korean War and longtime member of the Canadian Forces, Mr. Aucoin has been an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) for more than 49 years and is an active member of 10 other veterans' organizations. Since 1955, Mr. Aucoin has worked on several RCL committees, and has served at the executive level for 25 years. Mr. Aucoin is currently First Vice President of the Nova Scotia/Nunavut Provincial Command. He visits those in hospital and ensures that they receive the benefits to which they are entitled. Mr. Aucoin has devoted much of his time to the overall well-being of veterans, and ensured that local veterans received the Netherlands' "Thank You Medal of Remembrance" and other medals to which they were entitled. For 50 years he has participated and assisted at commemorative events and lectured at schools for Remembrance Day. In recognition of his devotion and hard work on behalf of veterans, Mr. Aucoin is a recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, the RCL's Life Membership Award and Meritorious Service Medal, and has twice received a local community volunteer award for his efforts on behalf of veterans and his community.
