George Cake

Corner Brook, Newfoundland & Labrador

Mr. Cake is a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran. He joined the Royal Canadian Legion in 1991 and has held many executive positions in the Corner Brook Branch. Mr. Cake has also served as parade commander and sergeant-at-arms with the Legion. He served as Service Officer for the branch for ten years and he has been a member of the Sick and Visiting Committee for the past 15 years. Through this work, Mr. Cake visits Veterans and their families and distributes financial aid to those in need. On a weekly basis, he also visits Veterans in the Veterans wing of the long-term care centre and in their homes, ensuring that their physical and material needs are taken care of. Mr. Cake has worked with many Veterans to help them successfully obtain benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada. He is a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and, each year, he assists his local branch with the Poppy Campaign. He visits local schools during Veterans’ Week to help young Canadians learn more about Veterans. During the Legion’s winter carnival, he puts together a work detail to prepare meals. Mr. Cake organizes and plans all aspects of his branch’s involvement with Remembrance Day activities. He has also served as treasurer of the local chapter of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping. He is currently serving as a committee member for the Western Region Memorial Veterans Pavilion.
