George McKiel

Mr. McKiel is a peacekeeping and NATO Veteran. He is a tireless member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 (Todmorden), known by the phrase ALet George Do It.@ As a 53-year Life Member of the Legion, he is Commanding Officer of the Colour Guard, marching in annual parades including Warrior=s Day at the Canadian National Exhibition, Remembrance Day and Canada Day. Mr. McKiel organizes annual services for Native Canadians and is the Commanding Officer for the Remembrance Day service in East York. As President of Branch #10’s Veterans Club, Mr. McKiel has arranged numerous outings to entertain Veterans. He and his late wife, Claire, spent many hours distributing poppies at the Eaton Centre. They were monthly visitors at Sunnybrook Hospital and other health care facilities. As a member of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists, Mr. McKiel has appeared in numerous features in support of military and Veterans issues. Mr. McKiel is a recipient of the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award as well as the Royal Canadian Legion’s Meritorious Service Medal.
