George McLean

A Veteran of the Second World War, Mr. George McLean has demonstrated exceptional dedication and tireless devotion in bringing the message of remembrance to Canadian youth, especially students. Drawing upon his own first-hand experiences, he is able to help students better understand the life and times of our Veterans and their contribution to Canada. Mr. McLean is a very active participant of the Memory Project, an initiative which brings Veterans and students together to talk about war and to preserve their stories for future generations. Mr. McLean, along with members of theVeteran community and Veterans Affairs Canada, were successful in having the the Government of British Columbia create a special licence plate program which provided individual Veterans with greater public recognition. Mr. McLean has served on many municipal and regional committees and his contribution was recognized when he was made a Freeman of the City of Burnaby. He was also presented with the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in honour of his volunteer work to improve his community.
