George Olscamp

Mr. Olscamp is a Veteran of the Second World War. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Summerside since the late 1940s. He has served on various committees including President of the Provincial Command for two years, andBranch #5 President for two years. For several years, Mr. Olscamp has been a Service Officer and a member of the Sick and Visiting Committee and has attended many funeral services for Veterans. Mr. Olscamp was honoured as Legionnaire of the Year in 1985 and 1992. In 1989, Mr. Olscamp was instrumental in forming a bursary fund at his Branch which continues to assist members' dependents with their education costs. He was appointed to the Prince Edward Island District Client Advisory Committee of Veterans Affairs in 2000 and retired in 2009. He has received The Royal Canadian Legion's highest honour - the Meritorious Service Medal and Palm Leaf. Mr. Olscamp was awarded Summerside's Citizen of the Year in 1986, the Charles H. Llewellyn Service Person of the Year in 1995, and the Paul Harris Fellowship Award in 2001 from the Rotary Foundation. In addition, Mr. Olscamp is very active in his community volunteering with Kinsmen Club, St. Paul's Church, Knights of Columbus, Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels.
