Mr. Kelly is a retired Canadian Forces Veteran. A strong advocate for Veterans, Mr. Kelly has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1970, where he has served on many committees over the past 46 years. For five years, he served on the Conception Bay South Monument of Honour Committee where his fundraising efforts were significant to the cause. This monument is designed to recognize past, present and future Veterans, police officers, and firefighters. For several years and until this past year, Mr. Kelly was the Chair of his Royal Canadian Legion branch’s Poppy Fund. The fund had seen a significant increase during this time and as well, Mr. Kelly participates in numerous other fundraising events to ensure his branch remains in good financial standing. Mr. Kelly attends all military and Veterans’ funerals and participates in the honour guard. In addition to his long-standing membership with the Legion, Mr. Kelly is also an active member of the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association. In 2014 Mr. Kelly received the Legionnaire of the Year award.
